Nestled among one of Tanzania’s oldest and largest coffee plantations is Arusha Coffee Lodge, a charming and original homestead dating back to the early 1900s. Located on the gently rolling foothills of Mount Meru and an easy ten minute drive from Arusha Airport, this is a wonderful place to stay at the beginning or end of your East African safari.
There are 30 en-suite accommodation options in the style of Plantation Houses that radiate into the surrounding evergreen coffee fields. Each of the rooms is spacious and homely featuring in room log fires, rainfall showers, generous sized bathtubs and private verandahs that overlook the lush coffee gardens. The main Plantation House continues to evoke a theme of by-gone times, with most of the design and interior elements focusing on the style of the original landowner’s home. An enclosed swimming pool, landscape gardening, a Tanzanite gem shop as well as an excellent cafe all add to the allure of this sensory experience.
From Arusha Coffee Lodge it’s possible to enjoy an assortment of nearby attractions including wildlife, cultural and historical activities. Explore the world of coffee by joining a tour around the plantation to see how the coffee is grown, harvested, dried and produced into the delicious coffee that we drink today. Head off into the Arusha National Park - home to blue monkeys, colorful trogons and Colobus monkeys - to reconnect with nature or take a trip to Ngorongoro Crater - the highlight of any stay at the lodge. If you have more time to spare, Arusha city itself offers a range of highlights such as the Museum of Natural History, the Tanzanite Museum and the Maasai Market where you can support local Tanzanian artisans.
