Governors' Mugie House

Governors' Mugie House | Laikipia

Set on a private conservancy, Governors' Mugie House offers a myriad of activities by which to explore and enjoy its vast open landscapes and abundant wildlife. This is the newest property of the Governors’ Camp Collection, which provides a ‘behind the scenes’ safari experience in the rugged and wild area of Laikipia in northern Kenya.

The accommodation comprises eight stone cottages, which are all luxuriously and individually furnished to the highest of standards; no two cottages look the same. The en-suite rooms are overly spacious, with high floor-to-ceiling French windows allowing for plenty of natural light and breathtaking views of the Laikipia expanse and Mount Kenya ahead. The main house hosts guests for delicious meals with fresh ingredients sourced from the vegetable garden. In the evening, sit back in front of a roaring log fire with your favorite tipple - or out on the verandah and take in the wonders of the night sky above. In between activities, you can make the most of the infinity pool or the spa room which offers a wide range of relaxing treatments - or play a round of golf on Kenya’s most northern golf course!

Game drives are in open 4x4 vehicles on the private Mugie Conservancy - almost 50,000 acres of pristine wilderness, teeming with wildlife including some of the region's endemic species such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and Jackson’s hartebeest. There are strong numbers of elephants on Mugie and big cats such as cheetah and lion are monitored and protected through the conservancy’s collaring and anti-poaching units. In fact, Mugie is at the very front of conservation, operating as a low impact cattle ranch alongside management of sustainable conservation, community cooperation and much more. Guests of Governors’ Mugie House can visit the conservancy’s headquarters and meet the tracker dogs and rangers, for an insight of their day to day work.

Mugie combines beautifully with any of the Governors’ camps in the Masai Mara and the Great Rift Valley, for a full circuit Kenya itinerary, ticking off three of the country’s best wildlife locations.
