Governors Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Governors Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge | Rwanda

Located at the base of the mighty Virungas Volcanoes chain and hidden among beautiful thick forest, lies Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge - Rwanda’s first ever community-owned lodge. Conceived and created by the Governors’ Camp Collection of properties in 2008, the lodge is still managed by Governors but uniquely, ownership rests with a local community trust. The lodge is fully committed to conservation of the endangered mountain gorilla and its fragile habitat, with revenues being used to drive socio economic initiatives and improve the lives of vulnerable families living on the edge of Volcanoes National Park.

Small and intimate with just nine stone cottages featuring Rwandese terracotta tile roofs, Sabyinyo is a perfect choice for couples, families and adventure lovers who would like to know that their stay is making a real difference to wildlife conservation. The suites are incredibly cosy with luxury beds, in-room fireplaces and large sitting areas where guests can relax in their own space and time. The main area offers a spacious living area, reception and stylish dining room while the main patio presents sensational views of the volcanoes and Rwanda countryside.

The lodge is close to the main headquarters of Volcanoes National Park, where clients begin their trek on foot to see the mountain gorillas. Golden monkey treks, guided bird walks and visits to Dian Fossey’s grave as well as a chance to visit some of community partnerships and projects and local villages can also be arranged.
