Manda Bay is a privately owned retreat located on the northern tip of Manda Island in the Lamu archipelago on Kenya’s northern coastline. This is the perfect escape for families, couples and close groups traveling together who are looking for an unspoiled, secluded location where you can switch off from the rest of the world.
All of the 16 en suite rooms, 11 are beachfront and 6 are seaview and all have direct access to the beach with amazing views across the bay itself. They are spacious with no glass (but thick white curtains) and thatched roofs which means that they are cool and airy and welcome in the wonderful sea breeze. The decor and design would be described as simplistic beauty, where visitors can enjoy a ‘no shoes, no news’ kind of experience.
There is no access to Manda Bay other than the lodge’s private speedboat - so guests have the island, quite literally, to themselves. The atmosphere is relaxed and one can do as much - or as little as one pleases. For many, Manda Bay is all about relaxing by the pool, kicking back in a hammock with a good book or favourite cocktail in hand. For others, it's about deep sea fishing and watersports; banana boats, kayaks, wakeboards, water skiing and snorkelling. For a cultural perspective, take a boat trip over to the ancient Arab town of Lamu, which was established in 1370 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
