Singita Kataza House

Singita Kataza House | Rwanda

For those travelling in large groups, Singita Kataza House is an exclusive-use villa that puts gorilla trekking experiences within easy reach. Shrouded by acres of indigenous forest that is refuge to the endangered mountain gorilla and by honouring sustainability as a fundamental design focus, Kataza House compliments its nearby sister property - Kwitonda House - which is another of Singita’s pledges to conscious travel.

This contemporary and beautifully located 4-bedroom private house was conceived and crafted in response to its unique position on the very edge of the Volcanoes National Park. The eco conscious use of striking local materials such as volcanic rock, hand-fired terracotta bricks and woven roof linings have been carefully sourced so as to remain in keeping with the surrounding landscape. Featuring two heated plunge pools, a private chef and dedicated host, families and groups can enjoy relaxed freedom and uninterrupted time together in a secluded sanctuary of their own.

From Kataza House, treks through the forested volcanoes slopes two species - the majestic mountain gorillas and the Golden Monkeys - offer a rare and delightful wildlife experience not to be missed. Guests are also able to access Kwitonda Lodge’s facilities and without going too far, one can enjoy Singita’s renowned wine tastings, the house’s farm-to-table garden tour or a range of first-class spa treatments. Head a little further into Kigali for a city tour or the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to observe ancient traditions and traditional lifestyles.

Getting There

International flights arrive at Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali.

  • Singita Volcanoes National Park can either be accessed by a 30-minute helicopter flight or a 3-hour road transfer from Kigali.
  • The drive is wonderfully scenic, but quite winding and hilly. Guests are therefore advised to pack motion sickness tablets, if needed.
  • It’s also important to note that there’s only one public rest stop on the way.
  • Direct flights from Singita Grumeti in Tanzania to Kigali are available.
  • There are also good connections on Rwanda Air between Kigali and Cape Town/Johannesburg in South Africa. This makes Singita Volcanoes National Park an excellent destination in combination with other wilderness destinations in Africa.

Please note that guests are required to book and pay for a Driver Guide and vehicle for every day of their stay at Singita Volcanoes National Park to facilitate all activities as well as transfers to and from Kigali. Having a Driver Guide and vehicle ensures flexibility so that guests can plan their days according to preference.
