The Manor

Reminiscent of an old country home of Cape-Dutch style architecture, is The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the 1,500 acre Shangri-La coffee estate in north west Tanzania. This is the perfect environment to step back into the grandeur of a bygone era, surrounded by lush gardens, magnificent views and old world charm, while the beauty and drama of the Ngorongoro crater lies only a short while away. 

There are nine en-suite luxurious cottages (18 suites) spread across the beautiful grounds, blending East African hospitality with colonial European architecture and design. Each room offers all the comforts of a home-away from home, with personal lounge areas, private verandahs and in room fireplaces which are lit on chilly nights. The bathrooms are a heavenly experience in themselves, with rainfall showers, a claw-footed Victorian style bath and double vanity counters.

The magnificent main Manor House is a wonderful place for guests to meet each other, enjoy sumptuous meals in the formal dining room or taste a selection of wine from the manor’s personal cellar. The landscaped gardens are peaceful and pretty, with plenty of little nooks to sit and gaze across at the immaculate valley plantations. A snooker table, mini theater, sauna and massage room as well as a fully stocked library, are all added bonuses to an already impressive property. 

There are plenty of activities and ways to spend your time at The Manor, but most visits are focused on wildlife viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater, famed as being the ‘Eighth wonder of the World’. The crater is an extinct volcano, with an 18 kilometer-wide crater floor, serves as a ‘natural enclosure’ for a huge variety of wildlife such as wildebeest, buffalo and rhino as well as a resident population of lions. Picnics on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, surrounded by game and visits to Lake Manyara National Park are also possible. Onsite activities at The Manor include horse riding around the coffee estate, sundowners within the beautiful grounds and time in the spa.
