Dar es Salaam Overview
Tanzania’s former capital, Dar es Salaam is the biggest city in the country and is situated on the East coast on a natural Indian Ocean harbour. As a natural port, it has a significant Swahili history dating back to the Arab trading era. It is home to a selection of international hotel chains and boutique hotels and considered a convenient hub for international and domestic travel. It offers visitors the opportunity to experience the brightly coloured Tingatinga painting style which can be seen in Nyumbaa ya Sanaa cultural centre in Dar es Salaam’s Oyster Bay area.
