Masai Mara Overview

The Masai Mara is classified as one of the seven wonders of the world and host to the annual migration from July through to November. The Masai Mara is arguably the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness area in Africa, globally renowned for exceptional populations of lion, African leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant. The total area under conservation in the Greater Maasai Mara ecosystem amounts to almost 1,510 km2 (580 sq mi) and offers incredible opportunities to view wildlife all year round.

When is the best time to visit?

The Masai Mara is good to visit all year round however there are typically heavy rains from mid March to late May.

From December to mid-March, the days are hot and sunny, usually with clear skies.

For nature lovers, the Great Migration takes place from July to December (typically) but there is great game viewing all year round.
