Meru Overview
Bisected by 13 rivers and straddling the equator, Meru is renowned for its natural beauty and dense wildlife population. Popularised by Joy Adamson's book “Born Free” the region boasts a diversity of habitats ranging from thorny bush land to vast open plains, lush riverine forests and wooded grasslands. The National Park covers 870 km2 and is situated between the Nyambeni Mountains and Mount Kenya and is home to Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe as well as lion, cheetah, leopard, Bohor reedbuck, hartebeest, elephant and buffalo along with over 427 species of bird.

Meru is good to visit all year round however there are typically heavy rains from mid March to late May.
From December to mid-March, the days are hot and sunny, usually with clear skies.
