Alisa Karstad, BSc Zoology

Experience Designer & Guide

For private guide experiences it's hard to look past Alisa Karstad. Alisa was born and raised on the Kenyan coast; a region of huge cultural and biological diversity. It was here that her respect for people of all backgrounds was fostered and where her innate fascination for the beauty and complexity of the natural world took root.

Alisa holds a First Class Honours degree from Trinity College, Dublin in Zoology as well as being a certified safari/nature guide with the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa, the association that sets the standard and level of professionalism in the guiding industry. She is also a qualified guide with the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. She lives in Nairobi and has 12 years  experience working in the luxury safari camp industry. She is particularly involved in community and conservation work.

Alisa

As well as enjoying an active outdoor lifestyle, Alisa has a passion for wildlife photographybirdwatching and travel. She is always up for the next adventure; and some of her most memorable feats in Eastern Africa to date have included; swimming with whale sharks and tracking lemurs in Madagascar; hiking up the active Erta Ale volcano in the Danakil Depression or amongst hundreds of Gelada baboons in the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia; collaring elephants for conservation work in the Masai Mara; chimp tracking and climbing the active Nyiragongo volcano in the DR Congo; trekking to see endangered mountain gorillas multiple times in Rwanda; climbing Mt Kenya and scuba diving with bottlenose dolphins and green turtles in Kenya... the list goes on! Alisa is a great source of knowledge for any of our clients who are particularly interested in planning a safari that gives back to local communities and wildlife conservation organisations. She is also able to privately guide guests wishing to avail of this service.
