Selous Game Reserve & Ruaha National Park
The Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected game reserve in Africa, spanning 54,600 km2 and is comprised of a vast wilderness with forests, grassy plains, mountains and open woodlands. The expansive wildlife diversity and sheer size has earned it UNESCO World Heritage status in 1982 with an abundance of hippo, wild dog, lion, cape buffalo and Masai giraffe. The Selous game reserve can be experienced by boat, vehicle or on foot and also boasts World War 1 battle sites.
An exclusive safari experience is made possible with a selection of safari camps along the Rufiji river as there are no permanent structures allowed within the park.
Ruaha National Park is considered something of a well kept secret and is renowned as a bird watching paradise. It is also home to 10% of Africa’s entire lion population.

From December to mid-March, the days are hot and sunny, usually with clear skies.
For nature lovers, the Great Migration takes place from July to December (typically) but there is great game viewing all year round.
